When my kids were little, I had them convinced that because they have Irish ancestors, they could put decorated shoeboxes in the windows on the eve of St. Patrick's day, to attract leprechauns. The shinier the decorations, and the more moonlight reflected, the more candy and little toys the leprechauns would leave. I even got calls from teachers, telling me this was problematic, because other kids in the class didn't get leprechaun gifts. Oh well! I delighted in letting my kids feel special in this tradition.
Leprechauns are whimsical, fun, mischievous, and they make me smile. I wish they were real.
